It all began with the appearance of the Virgin Mary to a shepherd who was cured whilst bathing his injured foot in a spring. Soon thereafter a bath house was built, and the spot was christened the “red spring”.

The Laguz-Alpe is located in a small side valley southwest of the Großes Walsertal (not to be confused with the better-known Kleines Walsertal!). This destination is interesting as a detour on the trip over the Faschina-Joch or as an independent, small tour.

A special feature of the Biosphärenpark Großes Walsertal is the extraordinary variety of plants on the "Hahnenkopf" in Faschina, which have developed due to the geological conditions in this area.
