Description & Infos

With the Skyspace-Lech of the internationally renowned artist James Turrell, the Arlberg has received a piece of art that invites to a unique experience of light and space. The focus is on the attentive perception of the light art developed by James Turrell. The Skyspace-Lech can be experienced most impressively at the edge of the day, when the sun rises and sets and the night comes up.

During the day and good weather conditions (no showers) the cupola of the Skyspace stays opened. During this time visitors are invited to watch the changing skys combined with the light cone of the sun moving along the wall of the sensing room. During bad weather times the cupola is closed and a second light art program will be performed. This second program creates a Ganzfeld – Effect at the area of the cupola.

Thanks to its movable dome, the Skyspace-Lech is one of the few light spaces in this series of works in which two essential artistic concepts by James Turrell can be experienced.

During a guided tour at sunset time, both light installations designed by James Turrell - Skyspace concept and Closed programm – as well as the demonstration of closing and opening the dome (operation by expert personnel) can be shown.

The Skyspace-Lech is open all year on a daily basis.

Please consider that Skyspace-Lech can be closed due to bad weather conditions bad (thunder storm, snow storm, fog etc.) or when a private guided tour takes place. If you are planning a visit, please check the calendar for visits on our website www.skyspace-lech.com in advance, to make sure that the Skyspace is opened to the public at the time you want to visit it.
