Ausflugsziele in Vorarlberg

The former residence of the prince-bishops of Constance is particularly striking for its picturesque location on the steep slope high above the shores of Lake Constance. From the terrace there is a magnificent view of the panorama of the Alps - an almost Mediterranean flair can be felt here.

High above Lake Constance rises "The Meersburg", the landmark of the region. The old Meersburg, the new Meersburg Castle and the excellently preserved town as well as the vineyards around the town make the visit a special experience.

The Historical and Ethnological Museum has been located in the St.Gallen City Park for almost 100 years. It is an important bearer of the historical memory of the city, and to some extent also of the canton.

A women's museum? And one in a rural location? The Fraunemuseum Hittisau in the Bregenzerwald (Austria) shows that both are possible – and have been for over twenty years now. It was the initiative of Elisabeth Stöckler that brought about the founding of the museum in 2000.

The Bludenz town archivist Alfons Leuprecht (1867-1940) started a collection of historical, folkloristic and natural history objects related to Bludenz even before the First World War.

Where would you find a better place for a ski museum than in the snowiest village in the world? Enough said! The exhibition in the rectory encompasses 130 years of Vorarlberg skiing history as well as the history of ski racing in Vorarlberg.

The Alamannen-Museumsdorf Mäder is dedicated to the history and culture of the Alamanni, who immigrated to Vorarlberg in the 2nd half of the 6th century AD at the latest. They subsequently shaped the language, customs and mentality of the region.

Hans Bäumler’s unique private collection encompasses over 100 masterpieces from artists as varied as Spitzweg, Waldmüller Monet, Renoir, Gauguin and Picasso; 130 years of art history presented in a pattern and with a compactness seldom found elsewhere.

The Dornbirn City Museum is housed in a 200-year-old patrician house directly on the market square. On three floors, selected objects and works of art present important chapters of the city's history.

This museum is dedicated to Vorarlberg’s best known writer and poet who lived in the 19th century.
