Ausflugsziele in Vorarlberg

In the hinterland of Lake Constance lies one of the most beautiful castles in Upper Swabia. Rural idylls with orchards and hop gardens characterise its surroundings.

„More realistic than a live opera” this entry in our visitors’ book sums up the philosophy of Lindau’s puppet theatre. When the audience forget that they are “only” viewing puppets then we have reached our goal.

The Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, with its attractive, temporary exhibitions of contemporary and modern art, enjoys international renown.

The FLATZ Museum in the former premises of the Alte Naturschau goes back to a donation of works by the artist FLATZ, born in Dornbirn in 1952, to the city of Dornbirn. It was opened in 2009 by the former documenta director Jan Hoet.

The Montafon Tourism Museum in Gaschurn is located in an old early fair house and has existed since 1992. For 17 years, the history of tourism was presented here, but since 2009 the house has been reoriented.

Elisabeth Schwarzkopf ranks among the most important singers of the 20th century. Luckily, her extraordinary career as an opera and concert performer is well documented through a great number of recordings, which set standards until the present day.

The historic Schattenburg

The Great Walser Valley can officially call itself a biosphere park, which indicates a high quality of life. For centuries, however, the population had to solve manifold problems in order to exist at all.

Neuschwanstein was opened to the public in 1886, only seven weeks after the death of König Ludwig II. The unsociable king had built the castle to enable him to withdraw from the public eye – perversely, his hideaway has now become a major tourist attraction

The oldest parts of the building originate from the 15th century and the long corridors of the upper floors give us an idea of the architecture of the late Middle Ages. The urban flair of the building is the result of the boom of the mining period.
