Ausflugsziele in Vorarlberg

The open-air museum Villa Rustica, near the town of Rankweil, consists of three buildings of an ancient Roman farming estate, inhabited from the first to the fifth centuries A.D.

The Vorarlberg World of Museums combines seven museums under one roof.

For half a century, the equipment of the shoemaker workshop of Karl Nachbauer (grandfather of the Schubertiade’s managing director Gerd Nachbauer) had been stowed away. Now it is on display in a small shoemaker museum, which takes up two rooms at Marktstraße 15.

The Montafon Tourism Museum in Gaschurn is located in an old early fair house and has existed since 1992. For 17 years, the history of tourism was presented here, but since 2009 the house has been reoriented.

The Alamannen-Museumsdorf Mäder is dedicated to the history and culture of the Alamanni, who immigrated to Vorarlberg in the 2nd half of the 6th century AD at the latest. They subsequently shaped the language, customs and mentality of the region.

This museum houses a permanent collection of works by Vorarlberg artists since the 17th century, and also organises special exhibitions by leading figures in Vorarlberg art history.  

 

The Franz Schubert Museum traces the great Viennese composer’s life and work in rooms that were built shortly before his birth.

The oldest parts of the building originate from the 15th century and the long corridors of the upper floors give us an idea of the architecture of the late Middle Ages. The urban flair of the building is the result of the boom of the mining period.

Basking in the light of Lake Constance, the Bregenz Art Gallery (Kunsthaus) is Vorarlberg’s modern art Mecca.

The Schubertiade Museum, which is the contiunation of the Franz Schubert Museum, traces the reception history of Franz Schubert and his work, with a special focus on artists, publishers or teachers who have rendered outstanding services to the composer after his early death, but a
